Simon Trottier is a rising Canadian film and television producer specializing in international co- productions.
Trottier was Executive Producer for the feature film Funkytown produced by André Rouleau from Caramel Films, with a budget of 8M$. It was Trottier who brought together in 2005 writer Steve Galluccio (Mambo Italiano), director Daniel Roby (White Skin) and the production and distribution company Remstar Corp and pitched to them the idea of making a movie about the disco scene in 1970s Montreal. Since its release in January 2011 Funkytown has topped the Canadian box office.
Trottier acted as executive producer for the 2010 French documentary Des Jeunes Gens Modernes directed by Jérôme de Missolz (Yves St-Laurent/ Wild Things) and co-produced with Love Stream - Anges BARTE (France). With a production budget of 1.2M$ this international co-production focuses on the explosion, in 1980s France, of electronic music later popularized by Canadian, American and Japanese bands.
In 2008 Trottier co-produced, with the French production company Eskwad (Richard Grandpierre) and Wild Bunch the horror film Martyrs directed by Pascal Laugier, with a budget of 5.6M$. Following its premiere as part of the Midnight Madness section of the 2008 Toronto International Film Festival, Martyrs has continued to provoke considerable controversy among critics and viewers at its screenings in France and Canada. Sold in more than 25 countries, including the USA (The Weinstein Co.), the film is now been optioned by the Twilight franchise producer, Wick Godfrey, for a remake.
Trottier teamed up with French actor/director star Mathieu Kassovitz (Gothika) for the shooting of his last movie Babylon AD (70M$) starring Vin Diesel. Trottier and Kassovitz are still in touch and working on new opportunities for co-production.
Simon Trottier has acted for 2 years as Marketing and Development Director for Mel's Cité du Cinéma / Locations Michel Trudel Inc. Prior to embarking on a career in the movie business, Trottier ran his own agency, Avalanche Concerts, and acted as talent agent and show producer for well established Québec music artists such as Jorane, les Respectables, Soul Attorneys, Claude Dubois, Jean Leloup and others at L'Équipe Spectra and Productions Phaneuf. In the course of his career Trottier has been awarded 2 gold records and 2 platinum records.
